First let me say this is my first experience with any protein skimmer so I’m a noob. Anyway, I bought this one thru Amazon because my local store carried it so I felt comfortable trying it, but the store’s was 159.00 compared to 95.00 here. My problems: (1) The main hose from pump to tank had been cut in half, so had to run to hardware store for a replacement. (2) The design was awkward in my opinion, with the cup being positioned too close the the inlet, but remember I have nothing else to judge by. They all look a bit awkwardly built, honestly, maybe the nature of this type of equipment. The biggie was (3) the pump would not work, it just spewed bubbles, sounded odd, and the tank never filled. I double checked all connections and everything I had control over was tight, so had to be a bad pump. After 2 hours of reading the hazy directions and screwing around and guessing at what I was supposed to see happen, compared to what I was seeing, I finally decided it was really broken. I returned it and I’m now looking for a different model. BTW I did try out the half length of hose to rule out lack of tight fit from my store bought hose…no difference, it still spewed bubbles.
