This filter is great. From the moment I got it out of the box, it has been nothing but easy. Easy to put together, easy to take apart to clean, QUIET!! Which is what I was looking for. My turtles LOVE it!

    Thanks Fluval!

I was looking for a good filter for my 2 RES turtles. I’ve had them for about 6 months and had them in a tiny 10 gallon tank that I was changing the water in manually, but I decided to upgrade my tank and get a filter so I wouldn’t have to change the water that often. I upgraded to a 30 gallon tank and I initially bought a 501 filter from zoomed but I think I had a defective unit as it barely circulated any water, so I bought this filter. This thing moves water really well and one of my turtles likes to go infront of the jet to be pushed around by the current. I bought the carbon insert and I haven’t had to change the water in 2 weeks so far and the water is still crystal clear! I would definitely recommend this filter!

I have a 26 gallon bow front planted aquarium and originally had one of those “over the back” filters. I lost a lot of CO2 with the surface disturbance that filter created. Unfortunately I was a few gallons over the Fluval 2 filter so I picked up the Fluval 3. it is very large for a 26 gal tank but I can imagine you wouldn’t have a problem with the 34 Gal that it is rated for. This filter does a nice job of creating a current in my tank (my Tiger Barbs even seem to enjoy it, letting themselves get pushed across the tank only to hop out of the current and back in near the source.)

I’ve only been using it for about a week so I can’t say how well it cleans the tank. But it is an amazing upgrade for a planted tank over the last filter in retaining CO2 in the tank and creating a nice current. And it’s amazingly quiet. (now if only I can get my light fixture to quite down :D )

I had this filter in a 55 gallon tank, but had to exchange it for a flubal 4 plus to handle the job. These fluval filters are not small, but do a great job.
