Modern, sleek nano style! The 6 gallon Fluval Edge can be filled to the very brim thanks to the glass top, providing high definition viewing from every angle. 3 Dimensional viewing of this little aqua marvel on your desk, bedside or countertop! The partially sealed top reduces evaporation for less maintenance and a large, hidden opening allows oxygen exchange to keep fish healthy. The floating base design gives the set a very small footprint for easy placement and lends the aquarium a clean, contemporary look. The Fluval Edge lighting and filtration systems are hidden beneath the removable cover for a clean presentation. The powerful, compact halogen light system provides over 3 watts of lighting per gallon. This brilliant illumination creates beautiful “shimmer” effects and allows you to furnish the tank with a wide variety of live aquatic plants if desired. A 3-stage power filter provides mechanical, chemical and biological filtration to ensure a healthy aquatic environment. The floating base design imparts a truly distinct, cantilevered look to complement your decor. The Fluval Edge Aquarium comes with lighting, filter and filter media, tap water conditioner, and aquarium conditioner to get your aquarium started right!
First of all i have 4 aquariums 2 of which are 6 gallons. This one beats them all in style. It attracts alot of attention. BUT! if you’re going to buy this tank be prepared to spend some more money, I swtiched out the standard halogen lamps for some led MR11′s i found online, so there goes $30. Also i’m using this tank as a red cherry shrimp and orange shrimp tank so i had to by the filter tube add on sponge which prevents baby shrimp from getting sucked in $3.5 also this might just be my bad luck but two days after i got the tank the lighting fixture stoped working not to mention one of the halogen lights kept flickering on day one until i went to walmart to replace it $7. This can be an amazing tank, i’ve seen various ones that are stunning from freshwater to marine to planted. But you have to invest and know what you’re getting you’re self into. honestly my fav 6 gal is still my petco bookshelf tank which was $50 with filter and lamp, but we’ll see how this one holds up. Best of luck!
While many may be upset reading this, I think I am entitled to write this review after spending hundreds of dollars on Fluval products. If you are a fish pro, there is no need to read this because I know you will never buy this. If you are a beginner or lazy with fish, continue reading.
Fluval Edge looks good only in pictures. While conceptually it looks like a good idea for a small aquarium, big problems with it are:
1. Hard to clean.
2, Not enough surface for gas exchange from water to air (because you fill it up).
3. You cannot have any surface/dual breathing fish in it.
4. Heavy.
5. The metal mesh does RUST after 4 months of usage.
6. The light system is a total disaster: it has 2 10W halogen spotlights which heat up the plastic really bad (I had to replace them with 5W), crystallize any fresh saltwater, evaporate the water at high rate, destroy the sockets around and are not that stable in the sockets after a while, get dirty easily from the water splash because they have no cover. If the fish jump towards them they will get burnt, the plastic switch cover is a joke and it gets lost easily in the water. Also the fish do not show the real color and look pale.
7. Fluval water heater is also not stable, the temperature is 2 degrees higher than the one stated in instructions.
8. The instant cycling solution package that comes with it is another disaster, it turned into dust and killed almost everything within it.
9. I had to replace the filter more often and I had to add a 4th layer as filter to reduce the toxic stuff.
10. The water filtering system is a fish killing machine. The absorption tube does not have an adequate cover (with a big hole on bottom) and literally vacuumed several of my 0.5 inch baby tetras (while they were sleeping and drifting in the night) and they came out on the other side CHOPPED. Not to mention the engine problems…
After 5 months of struggling with this product and lots of spent dollars I bought a 6.6 gallon tank for $49 which is 10 times better (and closer to a beginner aquarium), and I trashed everything from Fluval (except the water heater but will replace it soon). My fish are now super happy, very colorful, and play everywhere in the aquarium; before they used to stay on top.
I suggest you do some reading and buy a better fish home other than this product.
Fluval (Hagen)has an almost winner here. When set up it looks stunning, the plants grow right out the top of the tank even with no CO2 and with the standard lighting, but! just try to maintain this tank and you will shortly begin looking for another tank. The provided access port is so small it is near impossible to clean the substrate, or work with plants. Catching a determined fast shrimp will have you looking for glass cutters! I hope that when Hagen creates a successor to this tank they find a way to allow useble access.
