I’ve read some bleak reviews about this skimmer, and I think they are due to the fact that the documentation is very sparse. This is a perfect hang on skimmer for a 10 to 20 gallon tank. The problems arise due to the fact that you are nearly on your own getting the thing up and running. I’ve owned several skimmers over the last 16 years and this one is great. About 10 years ago I owned one called the Skilter that was similar in size and function, i.e. skimmer and filter. The Rio Nano skimmer has the Skilter beat hands down in terms of design and skimming ability. I even bought a second one for back up, but I’m also going to alter the intake so it takes in surface water, which is where all the bad stuff collects. It isn’t very loud, I have it on a mini reef tank in my home office. For a small marine tank this device is perfect.
